New Jordan Porco Foundation Celebrity Ambassador: Will Meyers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

New Jordan Porco Foundation Celebrity Ambassador: Will Meyers

Connecticut, U.S. – April 10, 2017 – The Jordan Porco Foundation (JPF) is proud to announce their new Celebrity Ambassador, Will Meyers. Will is originally from Connecticut and currently resides in Los Angeles, CA. He is best known for his appearance in Disney’s ‘Invisible Sister‘ and Nickelodeon’s TV series ‘Bella and the Bulldogs,” as well as several other independent and short films.

Most recently, he plays Cody in ‘Generation Me the Musical,’ his first professional stage production. He has been invited to be part of their New York City production, starting this summer. This is a musical about suicide, universal teen struggles, and signs that we can all miss. It opens up a necessary dialogue linking ‘Generation Me’ and Will to the critical mission and lifesaving programs of the Jordan Porco Foundation.

JPF is honored to introduce an accomplished and passionate young adult like Will as their Jordan Porco Foundation Celebrity Ambassador and this year’s recipient of their Community Mental Health Advocate of the Year Award. The Community Mental Health Advocate of the Year Award honors an individual who is using their public voice to promote mental health and prevent suicide. Will’s video and Fox 61 News interview are only the beginning of his journey to raise mental health awareness. Being a young adult—a peer—places Will in a unique position to promote mental health, prevent suicide, and create a message of hope for young adults.

Will is no stranger to the devastating ripple effect of suicide, having lost his friend, Jenna – who JPF considers a part of their extended JPF family. “When we lost her to teen suicide, I was shocked and devastated, as was our entire community.  Here’s a girl who on the outside just emanated brilliance and light and happiness and beauty, but on the inside, she was struggling and we had no idea.  To know that this hardship could be affecting anybody without anyone else knowing it, simply because a lack of communication of feeling, frightened me.  Teenagers have made it a habit to hold in their thoughts and feelings and it terrorizes their minds. I wanted to do something to change that.  So with that in mind, I consider it such a blessing and an honor to be able to work with an organization as pure-willed and inspirational as the Jordan Porco Foundation,” said Will.

Their tagline is, “We’re in it for life™.” It takes a concerted, collaborative, and continued effort to address young adult suicide which is a major public health concern that faces young women and men at the most vulnerable time in their lives. Communities must work to break the stigma and replace the stifling silence with conversation.

Will has a very important reminder for us, “Our efforts need to start with us.  I challenge all of you to extend your hand of hope to young adults, push past the discomfort, and just ask how they’re doing. That’s all it takes to start a conversation and encourage healthy communication.  Talk about it.”
