When Jordan died in February of 2011, some people, while kind, asked: “what will you say?” It was a question we answered with immediacy:
“We will tell the truth…openly…and with the conviction to help others.”
This is perhaps the most important way to get involved: to TALK, to tell the truth, to learn and to recite the horrific statistics. To save your own children, and help those children save their friends. Suicide doesn’t just happen to the person who committed the act. It happens to his/her family, friends, peers, teachers, and community. It affects those who knew the person well and those who didn’t know the person at all.
How Can You Get Involved?
If you are a Student, visit our Student Resource area. Learn more about warning signs of your friends being depressed. Speak up and speak out. You can be one of the 9 Out of 10 and Help Some ONE.
If you are a Parent, visit our For Parents Resources area. Learn more, talk more, bring the conversation up to your friends. There is no shame in having a child with mental illness. Staying quiet will not solve anything.
If you work within the school system, we have some resources on our SCHOOLS area of this site. There are thousands of programs you can tap into, already created, that won’t break your budget or your schedule. But doing something, might break the cycle.
You can DONATE to our Foundation or the other Foundations we have mentioned within this site.
You can VOLUNTEER at events and walk during suicide prevention walks.
YOU CAN GET INVOLVED. And we thank you for considering doing so.
